A valuable tip when one decides to visit Davao del Norte State College: tricycle drivers don’t identify the college as DNSC, instead they call it “Fisheries”. So if someone asks, “Asa ka day?” the better answer would be, “Sa Fisheries, Nong.”

But this local branding of the community to DNSC doesn’t stop students from defying limits. They proved that they are not just good in the laboratories but also possess artistic potentials in the fields of literature, performing, visual, and communication arts.

DNSC contingent was crowned 2nd Over-all Champion in the recently concluded first-ever PASUC XI Culture and the Arts Festival in the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), Obrero, Davao City last November 13 – 15, 2016. The activity was a regional preparation for national level competitions, attended by five SUCs from Region XI – Compostella Valley State College (CVSC), University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP, Over-all Champion), Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology (DOSCST), and Davao del Norte State College (DNSC).

The theme of the event was, “Paving the Internationalization of SUCs through Sports, Culture and the Arts”. Although the theme focused on showcasing world-class talents, the colleges didn’t forget to express how proud they were to come from the region.

The event was also a testament of the unity and understanding between SUCs in Region XI. On the opening day, Dr. Jonathan Bayogan (PASUC XI Chairperson and DNSC President) narrated the evolution of PASUC regional organization through the years and emphasized that the activity was a milestone of camaraderie. He further stated that the real objective of the gathering is “to highlight the beauty of our culture, and to let that beauty evoke awe and inspiration.”

The event was also made possible through the efforts of the Regional Coordinator for Culture and the Arts Festival, Mr. Guillermo Dimaligalig, backed up by the faculty and staff of the host university (USeP). The SUCs would see each other again in the upcoming Sports Festival on January 2017.(end, CNL)
