Davao del Norte State College upholds five core values – Excellence, Integrity, Innovation, Stewardship, and Love of God and Country. The administration has put up frames of these tenets everywhere inside the college to remind the employees of the things they should strive for. But what makes DNSC resilient through the years is not the image it portrays outwardly but the character of each individual that makes up the institution. One example is Ms. Fe E. Benigno and her act of honesty.
Last September 29, 2016, Ms. Benigno returned an amount of ten thousand pesos (₱10,000.00) to the management of Landbank. The money was already in the ATM cash dispenser before she could make any transaction. After careful review of the CCTV and ATM transaction journals, the bank found out that the money belonged to the account of Mrs. Avelina V. Rosete, withdrawn by her son, Mr. Ruben V. Rosete. The owner was a Philippine Veterans pensioner from Purok 6, Ising, Carmen, Davao del Norte. The family has nothing but deep gratitude to Ms. Benigno’s honest heart as the bank returned the cash personally.
Ms. Benigno’s single act that day reflected her 30 years of sincere service. She is assigned in the cashier’s office and has helped her colleagues in securing the money transactions of the college. Her action is a testament of how DNSC is moving forward everyday – through seemingly unseen deeds of kindness. (end, CNL)
