Students from Davao del Norte State College’s Institute of Computing brought home medals from the Philippine Society of Information Technology Students-Region XI Week (PSITS-XI Week) last March 22 – 27, 2021. DNSC representatives were declared as champions in three out of eight virtual contest categories.
DNSC Team Aquilifer outsmarted their opponents in the Mobile Legends competition and finished as champions for two consecutive PSITS games in a row. The student representatives were Jeco Floro (BSIT – 3rd Year), Frence Darwin Delos Santos (BSIT – 3rd Year), John Mark Barito (BSIT – 1st Year), Kent Jun Gil (BSIT – 1st Year), Rich Johnfrill Lacia ((BSIT – 1st Year), and Kim Lord Illustrisimo (BSIT – 1st Year). They were mentored by Mr. Glendell Jadraque and Ms. Princess Ann Flores.
For the Meme-making category, Gerald Macasaet (BSIT – 2nd Year) was declared as champion after displaying his editing skills and creativity in conveying messages through humorous and eye-catching illustrations. He was trained by Mr. Jeymar Alfarero. Nelma Mae Loja (BSIS – 3rd Year) also impressed the judges with her literary performance for the Spoken Poetry contest. She outperformed all contestants and bagged the first prize award. She was trained by IC OIC-Dean Mark Van Buladaco.
Darel Dan Ramos (BSIT – 3rd Year) was announced as the 2nd runner-up for the Hero Design contest. Under this category, students were tasked to create hero images, an important element for web design and branding. He was mentored by Mr. Jeymar Alfarero. For the Information Technology Quiz Bowl, Dyan Niña Narra (BSIT – 3rd year) and Marjey Curay (BSIT – 3rd Year) landed the 5th and 6th places, respectively. Mr. Jomarie Dave Jave helped them in their preparations.
For the DOTA2 contest, the College was represented by Edcel Laga (BSIT – 3rd year), Denver Divino (BSIT – 3rd year), Joshua Hinay (BSIT – 4th year), Paul Jealson Ayad (BSIT – 3rd year), and Ronn Ybañez (BSIT – 4th year), coached by Mr. Jumar Buladaco.
It is now the second year that Davao del Norte State College has led the competition in terms of accumulated awards. The activity is an annual gathering of private and public higher education institutions in Region XI with program offerings related to Information Technology. It provides a competitive platform where students can showcase their talents and skills in digital games, designing, programming, and innovating.
