All administrators, faculty members, staff, and clients of Davao del Norte State College who were in the campus performed the earthquake protocol (duck, cover, and hold) as part of the 2021 First Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) at 2:00 PM, today, March 11, 2021. The nationwide drill was spearheaded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and was duly endorsed by the Commission on Higher Education. A memorandum was issued by the Office of CHED Chairperson J. Prospero E. De Vera III, encouraging all Higher Education Institutions to participate. The activity hopes to promote earthquake preparedness to achieve community resilience. Faculty members and staff were informed to watch the Opening Program of the NSED through the social media accounts of NDRRMC and OCD. At exactly 2:00 PM, the virtual ceremonial pressing of the button was conducted. In DNSC, a siren was heard around the College to signal the start of the drill. The employees and clients performed the Duck, Cover, and Hold, but weren’t allowed to proceed to the evacuation drills as part of the compliance to the minimum public health standards on physical interaction and mass gathering.
