DSFC 2025 Conference in Davao City, Philippines

The Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges XI (PASUC XI), in collaboration with Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), Davao del Sur State College (DdSSC), Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), Davao de Oro State College (DdOSC), University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP), and Southern Philippines Agri-Business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), invites researchers, faculty, graduate, and undergraduate students from academic and research institutions to submit poster and research abstracts for the 1st Davao Sustainable Futures Conference (DSFC 2025). The event will take place on October 29-30, 2025, in Grand Regal Hotel, Davao City, Philippines, fostering knowledge exchange and promoting Futures Thinking and Foresight for sustainable development.

Professor of Science and Society University of Tokyo, Japan

PROF. HIROMI M. YOKOYAMA

With a Ph.D. in Particle Experimental Physics, Prof. Yokoyama’s expertise includes the Sociology of Science, Science and Technology Studies (STS), and Science Communication at the Graduate School of Interdisciplinary Information Studies, The University of Tokyo. Concurrently, she is also a Professor of Science and Society at the Kavli Institute for the Physics and Mathematics of the Universe (Kavli IPMU) at the same university. At DSFC, she will talk about the Futures of Environment, Technology and Sustainability Nexus: The Green AI.

PROF. MASAKO ISHII
Professor, College of Intercultural Communication Rikkyo University, Japan

PROF. MASAKO ISHII

Masako Ishii is a Professor at the College of Intercultural Communication, Rikkyo University, Tokyo. She obtained her Ph.D. in International Relations from Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan. Her main research interests are in Area Studies, particularly on Muslim society in the Philippines, with a focus on gender, the peace process, and migration. Her recent publication is The Military Solution to the “Terrorists” and the Whereabouts of Trust, in An Invitation to Islamic Trust Studies (University of Tokyo Press, 2023, in Japanese). She has also edited several publications, including The Bitter Reality of Sweet Bananas (Commons, 2020, in Japanese) and Asian Migrant Workers in the Arab Gulf States: The Growing Foreign Population and Their Lives (Brill, 2019)

DR. MICHAEL LOCHINVAR ABUNDO

He is the CEO of OceanPixel Pte Ltd and Chief Thinking Officer at BluC53 Pte Ltd, Singapore. He earned his PhD in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a focus on Tidal In-Stream Energy and an MS in Electrical Engineering specializing in Brain-Machine Interface (Instrumentation and Control). He contributes to sustainability, especially in green and blue economy development, by enabling ecosystem building with frameworks, mindsets, and technologies like autonomy, data analytics, machine learning, and systems thinking. His expertise includes ocean renewable energy, environmental monitoring, biomedical engineering, data acquisition, embedded systems, and integrated sensor design. He is an innovation-driven leader focused on technology-enabled sustainable development.
