PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College’s academic unit, headed by Vice President for Academics and Research, Dr. Girley S. Gumanao, together with the Institute Deans, Department Chairs, and the Office of Quality Assurance, participated in “Gearing toward OBEdization: Training and Writeshop for DNSC Academic Programs Assessment and Evaluation and Continuous Quality Improvement” last July 5 – 8, 2021, via Zoom Conference.
The resource speaker for the training was Dr. Pedrito M. Castillo II, Vice President of the Institute of Pedagogical Advancement and Competitiveness from the University of Mindanao. The training was initiated to provide in-depth knowledge and understanding on Outcomes-Based Education (OBE), Program Assessment and Evaluation, and Continuous Quality Improvement. This was organized by the Institute of Computing (IC) and Quality Assurance Office (QA).
During the writeshop, participants were tasked to develop program assessment and evaluation frameworks and quality improvement systems for their respective programs. Although in her closing insight, VPAR Gumanao stated that it would take time to fully institutionalize OBE, she appreciated the inputs from the training as “a way to develop a sense of responsibility and accountability… creating a holistic method of diagnosing problems and deficiencies in the academic programs. It is also a kind of monitoring tool for faculty and students’ performance.”
