PANABO CITY – The student artists of Davao del Norte State College emerged victorious in the Mindanao Association of State Tertiary Schools, Inc. (MASTS) Sociocultural Competition last November 4 – 8, 2022 at Davao Oriental State University, Mati City, Davao Oriental. The College brought 160 participants to compete in various sociocultural events.
The Radio Drama team earned DNSC’s gold medals, both in the group and solo categories. The dancing duo of Shaine Mei Lee Arudo and Romeo Selim finished as second best in Contemporary Dance (pair) event, while Ramses Pentacase finished as fifth place in the solo category.
DNSC’s Short Film entry was pronounced as second runner-up, inspiring the audience with its soulful showcasing of the struggle of the indigenous peoples to balance earning an education and preserving their culture. The casts and crew were Angela Abella, Stacey Nicole Marie Monta, Marlon Sulaiman, Lovely Jane Epifanio, Ronald Bantao, Justene Selgas, John Rey Dalman, Kryzel Mae Cadayuna, Cristian Jay Ocon, and Rafhael Lowix Homwad.
Photojournalists Justine Paula Arriesgado and Paulo Bastasa were able to secure the fourth spot in the layouting competition, while Zyra Josol was declared as third runner-up for on-the-spot poster-making. Adding to the tally of wins for the visual arts team was Jude Gumatay, who placed fourth in the digital poster-marking. The Short and Sweet Play, both musical and dialogue, was able to land the seventh spot in their respective events. The performers were Lady Kaye Nobleza, Kenji Rey Acido, Louwell Jay Bernalte, Precious Arcena, Shetori Robles, Jhocelle Urate, John Louis Saguban, Jaymar Balendras, Lexi Peromingan, Michael Compoc.
Vissae Bel Agus brought home the bronze medal in the extemporaneous speaking (English) category. For our Filipino events, Adrian James Pingot was third runner-up in Pagkukuwento and Joshua Ethan Bargayo was ranked eight in Dagliang Talumpati. Rodney John Gonzales landed sixth place for storytelling.
DNSC’s bet for the search for Ms. MASTS 2022, Mary Bless Araño, was crowned first runner-up. She was the competition’s favorite, securing six out of seven minor awards, including; Most Photogenic, Most Eloquent, Best in Talent, Best in Playsuit, Best in Festival Attire, nad Best in Filipiniana. His partner, Patrick Adrein Anadon was awarded Most Photogenic and Best in Festival Attire.
