PANABO City – Davao del Norte State College’s Junior Social Workers Association of the Philippines (JSWAP) highlighted the role of social workers in empowering communities in Tinubdanan 2023. It was held on March 30, 2023, at the DNSC gymnasium.
The program started with an inspirational message by Mr. Jerome C. Llevado, chairperson of the Bachelor of Science in Social Work program. He honored the efforts and contributions of social workers in addressing social needs despite a lot of barriers. A symposium followed the brief opening program, featuring Ms. Nasuha T. Bautista, RSW, as a resource speaker. She talked about the ethical principles of social work.
Tinubdanan 2023 also included five events and competitions. The first-year students won the Social Work Booth, Jazz Chant, and Battle of the Bands competitions with their outstanding performances. The 4th-year candidates, Joshua Darbe and Ledafe Antonette Ayco, were crowned as the Social Work Ambassador and Ambassadress for their advocacies and call to action during the pageant.
Three entries were featured in the short film competition, namely: Padayon, Mata sa Kamatuoran, and Bisikleta ni Mama, all of which tugged at the audience’s heartstrings and conveyed social realities as the theme for the films. Bisikleta ni Mama, an entry from the 3rd-year students, was declared the champion and won several awards, including best in poster, best in editing, best in videography, best in cinematography, and best in sound scoring.
