Rationale

Davao del Norte State College, in collaboration with the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges – Region XI (PASUC-XI), will serve as the host institution for the 58th Annual Convention of the Federation of Institutions of Marine and Freshwater Sciences (FIMFS), Inc., to be held on July 23–25, 2026, in Panabo City, Davao del Norte, Philippines. The convention will serve as a dynamic platform for participants, presenters, researchers, practitioners, professionals, and students from local and national higher education institutions, as well as international agencies and universities.

Anchored on the theme “Ocean and Fishery Futures: Chokepoints, Checkpoints, and Headways,” the event aims to facilitate the exchange of research outputs, highlight emerging innovations, and promote collaborative efforts addressing key challenges in marine and freshwater ecosystems. The convention will feature oral and poster presentations, academic discussions, and educational sessions that encourage knowledge sharing and interdisciplinary engagement.

Through this gathering, FIMFS seeks to mentor emerging scientists, strengthen research networks, and foster partnerships among academic institutions and stakeholders. Ultimately, the convention aims to advance scientific dialogue and support sustainable management and conservation of aquatic resources in the Philippines and beyond.
