PANABO CITY – The Union of Filipino Tourism Students (UFTS) of Davao del Norte State College, in collaboration with Katigaman Productions, celebrated the Philippine festivals in their recently concluded Skills Clinic and Olympics, last March 28, 2023, with the theme, “Expanding Expertise: Unleashing their Full Potential and Showcasing Festivity through Camaraderie and Creativity”.
The Olympics featured a quiz bowl, local and international tour package proposal, domestic and international tour guiding, flight attendants showmanship, festival of dance, and kasuotang Pinoy. The students represented the Kadayawan Festival of Davao City, Panagbenga Festival of Baguio City, Ati-Atihan Festival of Aklan, Sinulog Festival of Cebu, and MassKara Festival of Bacolod.
Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Good Governance dean Florie Ann Fermil gave an opening message and commended the students for their commitment in honing their skills. Resource speakers were also invited to talk about opportunities for future interns and tips on how to maximize tourism skills. The invited resource speakers were Ms. Sherry Calunsa and Dr. Glenn Lagura.
Team Sinulog bested the other groups in the FA Showmanship and Festival Dance, while the MassKara Festival topped the Tour Guiding, Local Tour Package Proposal, and Quiz Bee. The Panagbenga Festival aced the International Tour Package Proposal. The Kadayawan Festival was declared first in the International Tour Guiding.
In Kasuotang Pinoy, Panagbenga Festival’s Laila Prathumma and MassKara Festival’s Carlo Marzado were pronounced as champs. The MassKara Festival was the overall champion of the event, followed by Panagbenga, Kadayawan, Sinulog, and Ati-Atihan, respectively.
