These words from Dr. Joy M. Sorrosa, President of Davao del Norte State College, set the tone for the 58th Annual Convention of the Federation of Institutions of Marine and Freshwater Sciences (FIMFS), Inc., a reminder that science finds its greatest purpose when it uplifts communities and protects the ecosystems that sustain life.

For three days, researchers, educators, practitioners, students, and international partners came together at DNSC to share knowledge, collaborate, and pursue science-based solutions for the future of our marine and freshwater ecosystems.
Reflecting on the organization’s legacy, Dr. Richard Thomas B. Pavia, FIMFS President, remarked, “What started 58 years ago, with only five institutions, has now blossomed to a group comprised of 38 universities, private universities and state universities and colleges. We are one of, if not the oldest organization that is founded by institutions with an academic purpose.”
Truly an inspiring gathering of individuals bound by a shared passion for sustaining and protecting the planet. Until the next convention!
