PANABO CITY – Students from the Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology (BSMB) and Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences (BSFAS) programs at Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) excelled in the Student Research and Development Conference on Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources, organized by the Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic, and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC). The event took place on December 6, 2024, at the Farmer’s Training Center, University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP) Tagum-Mabini Campus, Apokon, Tagum City.
Nicolas Bucog, Jr., a BSMB student, won First Place Best Paper in the Poster Presentation Category, while Shecaina Faith L. Fernando, a BSFAS student, secured Third Place in the On-the-Spot Poster-Making Contest. Both students received certificates and cash prizes for their achievements.
Bucog presented his thesis titled, “Carbon Stock Assessment in the Mangrove Area of Barangay La Paz, Carmen, Davao del Norte”. Another BSMB student, Eula T. Aton, shared her research, “Reproductive Biology of Mud Clam Polymesoda erosa in Mangrove Areas of Bincungan, Tagum City, Davao del Norte” under the paper presentation aquatic category.
SMAARRDEC, established on August 13, 1987, through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) among member agencies including DNSC, facilitates research and development to accelerate the generation, application, and commercialization of technologies in agriculture, aquatic, and natural resources within the Davao Region.
