PANABO CITY — “This is the realization of a shared dream that quality higher education can now be brought closer to the young people of Asuncion.”
With these words, Asuncion Municipal Mayor, Atty. Rosario R. Dayaday, encapsulated a milestone years in the making as Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Asuncion formally turned over and blessed the DNSC Asuncion Extension Classes Building on July 30, 2026.
The ceremony was attended by DNSC President, Dr. Joy M. Sorrosa, members of the College Management Team, local government officials led by Mayor Dayaday and Vice Mayor, Atty. Eufracio P. Dayaday Jr., members of the Sangguniang Bayan, municipal department heads, faculty members, and other stakeholders in a celebration of a partnership anchored on expanding access to quality higher education.
In her message, Mayor Dayaday described the establishment of the extension campus as a testament to the shared commitment of the College and the Municipality of Asuncion to bring educational opportunities closer to aspiring learners, “May this institution become a place where knowledge flourishes, character is strengthened, and future professionals and public servants are formed. The Local Government Unit of Asuncion remains steadfast in its commitment to supporting programs that uplift the lives of our people through education.”
The ceremonial turnover was complemented by the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) between DNSC and the Municipality of Asuncion, formally establishing the DNSC–Asuncion Extension Classes beginning in Academic Year 2026–2027. The agreement outlines the shared responsibilities of both institutions in ensuring the successful operation and long-term sustainability of the extension campus.
The campus will initially offer the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT), with additional academic programs to be introduced in the future, subject to the necessary regulatory approvals.
For President Sorrosa, the new extension campus signifies far more than the expansion of the College’s physical presence. It represents an investment in the aspirations of the municipality’s youth and a foundation for continued educational growth.
“This initiative of opening Extension Classes is more than just an academic offering. It is actually a ripple that will inspire future expansions. I’ve already mentioned the plans that we have for the campus, bringing more programs closer to the dreams of your students,” she said.
