PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College hosted its annual Faculty Capability Building Series initiative for 2026 on July 29 and August 7 – 8, at the DNSC Gymnasium.
The three-day learning series upskilled faculty members with emerging tools, approaches, and frameworks relevant to higher education, focusing on artificial intelligence (AI) for instruction, microcredentials, and Continuous Iuality improvement (CQI) in academic settings.
The series opened with a session on Artificial Intelligence (AI) for Instruction, facilitated by Dr. Ramcis V. Vilchez, Dean of the College of Computing Education at the University of Mindanao. The session explored the potential of AI as a tool for enhancing teaching and learning and supporting faculty in navigating technologies in the classroom.
The faculty also revisited the concept and applications of microcredentials through a re-echo session led by Dr. Nickel Jean Lagare-Sastine, Dean of the Institute of Advanced Studies; Dr. Leo Jr. D. Rayon, Director for Research Division; and Dr. Girley S. Gumanao, DNSC College Professor.
Highlighting the value of microcredentials in higher education, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Ma. Melanie N. Edig, brought up their potential to bridge academic learning with evolving workforce demands.
“Micro-credentials are not merely additional certificates, they are opportunities. They are opportunities for our students to gain relevant, industry-recognized competencies. They are opportunities for our faculty to innovate in teaching and curriculum development. And they are opportunities for our institution to become more responsive to the rapidly changing demands of higher education and the world of work,” VP Edig said.
The series also featured “Frameworks of CQI in Academic Settings”, facilitated by Institute of Computing Dean Mark Van M. Buladaco, which oriented faculty members on approaches to continuous quality improvement within academic environments.
