PANABO CITY — Sixty-two students started a new chapter in higher education in the Municipality of Asuncion on August 3, 2026, as the pioneering batch of the Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) Asuncion Extension Campus began classes in the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology (BSIT) program.
The students, divided into two sections, attended the campus’ inaugural flag ceremony, joined by DNSC and Local Government Unit (LGU) of Asuncion personnel.
Present during the ceremony on behalf of the College were DNSC Asuncion Coordinator Nancy R. Raiz, BSIT instructor Joveliza Trongcoso, Director for Curriculum and Instruction Leonida P. Piorac, Institute of Computing Dean Mark Van M. Buladaco, Vice President for Academic Affairs Ma. Melanie N. Edig, and office staff.
The milestone was followed by a convocation hosted by the LGU of Asuncion, attended by Municipal Mayor, Atty. Rosario R. Dayaday, and Vice Mayor Eufracio P. Dayaday, Jr.
Addressing the pioneering students, Mayor Dayaday emphasized their role in establishing DNSC’s presence in the municipality, “You are not merely our students. You are our trailblazers, the pathfinders… Focus on yourself, not others. Focus on your own growth.”
The LGU also provided computer equipment to meet the laboratory requirements of the BSIT program, along with classroom chairs and other essential equipment.
The extension of DNSC’s BSIT program to Asuncion brings higher education closer to students in the municipality and nearby communities, reducing the need to travel farther to pursue an IT degree.
