PANABO CITY — Student researchers from Davao del Norte State College earned recognition during the Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research and Development Consortium’s (SMAARRDEC) 39th Founding Anniversary and Regional Symposium on Research, Development and Extension (RDE) Highlights, held in conjunction with the AANR Student Conference cum Farmers and Fisherfolks Forum on August 19–20, 2026, at the Southern Philippines Agri-Business, Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) in Malita, Davao Occidental.
In the Agriculture and Livestock Category, Thessa Angela E. Floro, a fourth-year Bachelor of Secondary Education major in Science student from the Institute of Teacher Education, placed third for her research titled, “A Dual Approach to Panama Disease: In Vitro Antifungal Activity and In Silico Molecular Docking of Senna alata Compounds against Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense TR4 (FocTR4)”.
Joebelle Y. Genota, a fourth-year Bachelor of Science in Information Technology student from the Institute of Computing, also secured third place in the Aquatic and Natural Resources Category for her study, “TrashVision: A Shoreline Geospatial Waste Monitoring System using Computer Vision and Drone Imagery”.
BSEd – Science Maryam A. Salih placed third in the Policy Pitching Category for “SENNA GATE: A Policy Framework for Evidence-Based Advancement of Senna alata–FocTR4 Research in Davao del Norte”.
DNSC also obtained a third-place award in the Same-Day Video Edit Making Contest, with fourth-year BSIT students James Carl Abiera and Jhon Patrick Acedo representing the College.
The institution arranged the DNSC booth for Technology and Services Exhibit, with exhibitors Iris Grace P. Sajol and Rhona Mae R. Lanticse. For the RAISE XI InnovAANR Pitch Festival 2026, Dr. Paquito E. Relox Jr. of the Food Technology Department presented the Round Scad Meat Floss with Curry Flavor, and BSFT student presented for Food Innovation and Product Development Pitching, Jaysel Niña M. Planos, on RiMoCo Nachos: The Healthier Way to Crunch (Rice-Mongo-Corn Nachos Enriched with Turmeric and Malunggay).
The regional event was attended by students, researchers, farmers, fisherfolks, and other stakeholders to showcase research-driven solutions and foster collaboration in agriculture, aquatic and natural resources, and related fields.
