PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College participated in the ASEAN University Network – Gender Justice and Inclusion (AUN-GJI) Learning Exchange Program on Designing Gender-Transformative Syllabi, held at Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok, Thailand, from August 31 to September 2, 2026.
Representing DNSC were Dr. Leonida P. Piorac, Director for Curriculum and Instruction, and Ms. Sadie D. Law-ay, Head of the Gender and Development (GAD) Unit. Their participation was facilitated through the College’s Internationalization and External Affairs Division.
The three-day training-workshop convened educators, curriculum specialists, and gender advocates from higher education institutions in Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, India, Timor-Leste, and the Philippines, with DNSC among the Philippine representatives.
The exchange focused on identifying gender justice-related issues in teaching and curriculum development, developing gender-transformative assessment tools and pedagogical approaches, and preparing institutional action plans.
Participants also reviewed and redesigned selected course syllabi by examining their content, learning outcomes, teaching-learning activities, and assessment strategies through the lens of gender equity, inclusion, and social justice.
The timing of the exchange aligns with DNSC’s scheduled curricular revisions across its institutes, providing an opportunity to consider gender-transformative principles in the review and enhancement of existing curricula.
The participating institutions likewise drafted a collective agreement identifying three priority actions to pursue after the exchange, extending their commitments beyond syllabus development toward advancing gender justice and inclusivity in higher education.
