PANABO CITY – Bilin, a student-created documentary film from Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), won the Best Documentary Film Award at the ASEAN UniFest SDG Short Film Competition 2025, held on November 12, 2025, at Spring Mall, Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.
Presented by the ASEAN Public Relations Network (APRN) and World Comm, the ASEAN UniFest SDG Short Film Competition is an invitational event that gathers university filmmakers across the ASEAN region to showcase their awareness, understanding, and advocacy of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The competition is one of the highlights of the ASEAN International Film Festival Awards (AIFFA) and aims to promote creative storytelling that supports sustainable development.
DNSC’s Bilin also earned nominations for the Environment Action Award and the Best Film Award. The crew of the film was composed of campus journalists from the institution’s student publication. Three other films from DNSC students were also nominated in various categories. Pagbalik sa Lawod received nominations for the Advocacy Award and Best Drama Award, while Layag was nominated for the Change Agent Award. Both of these films were outputs of Bachelor of Arts in Communication students, through the SineComm Society. The animated short film Dibuho, from the members of the student organization LAYA (League of Aspiring Young Artists), was nominated for the Best Poetic Film Award and stood out as the only animated entry to receive a nomination.
These achievements are a testament to DNSC’s growing presence in international creative platforms and reflect its continuing efforts to integrate sustainability advocacy, creative communication, and student development into its academic and co-curricular programs.
