PANABO CITY – Arts Appreciation students from Davao del Norte State College’s Institute of Aquatic and Applied Sciences, Institute of Computing, Institute of Leadership, Entrepreneurship, and Good Governance, and Institute of Teacher Education gathered for the Annual Arts Festival on May 3, 2024, with the theme; Sining Filipino sa Makabagong Siglo.

Several events showcased the creativity of the students and the vibrancy of culture. During the Variety Show, the Mr. and Ms. Arts 2024 candidates paraded handcrafted costumes made up of local and sustainable materials. The Bachelor of Public Administration 1-B and Bachelor of Science in Disaster Resiliency and Management 1-G were declared the best in the competition.

Lhara Mae Bulat-ag, one of the candidates, expressed, “Art Festivals promote diversity. They open our consciousness about being unique, different, and special.”

The festival also featured a live painting event, where student visual artists re-interpreted the campus landscapes. The representative from the Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English 1-A won as best visual artist, followed by the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology 1-B in second place, BSIT 1-G and BSDRM 1-C tied at third place, Bachelor of Science in Fisheries and Aquatic Science 2-C securing the fourth sport, and BASED Math 1-B and BSED Science 1-B tied at the fifth spot.

“Despite the extreme heat, the students’ cheers resounded in the college gymnasium. The students’ appreciation and willingness to celebrate the arts were undeniable,” shared Angelika Grace Cortez, a committee member of the celebration.

DNSC continues to ignite opportunities allowing students to delve into diverse art forms and cultures, leaving a lasting appreciation for the country’s rich heritage.
