PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), through its General Services Unit (GSU) and Resource Management Division (HRMD), conducted the Occupational Safety: Chemical Handling and Pest Management Practices Training on May 28, 2025 at the Academic Building. The activity was participated in by all GSU personnel and aimed to reinforce safety awareness among staff involved in sanitation, maintenance, and pest control operations.
The session was facilitated by Engr. Charmaine Maroe C. Asna, a Registered Chemical Engineer and Instructor I from the Institute of Aquatic and Applied Sciences. She discussed key topics such as chemical safety and handling protocols, safe storage and labeling of hazardous substances, emergency response procedures for chemical exposure, integrated pest management techniques, and the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). In his opening remarks, ASD Director Rhaymart Joe O. Gella encouraged the participants to absorb the knowledge shared and apply it diligently in their areas of responsibility. He noted that this year has provided a valuable opportunity for the personnel to enhance their skills and performance in the workplace.
Engr. Denny Luz F. Fabie, GSU Head, expressed appreciation for the support of the management and highlighted the importance of pest control implementation moving forward. She also encouraged everyone to report pest issues in their assigned areas and to look forward to future training sessions.
One of the participants, Jhon Mar A. Literatus, shared his takeaway from the activity, stating that he became more aware of the types of chemicals used and the importance of proper storage to avoid harmful exposure. He also emphasized the need for PPE, especially since they previously handled chemicals without it, realizing now the safety risks involved.
