PANABO CITY—The third International Research Festival, hosted by Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), convened global scholars for plenary talks, oral presentations, and poster presentations. Held at the Big 8 Corporate Hotel in Tagum City, Philippines, on October 28-29, 2024, the event embraced the theme “Futuring Together: Shaping Local Solutions, Leveraging Global Connections ”.

The plenary sessions were enriched by the insights of three distinguished researchers. Dr. Koji Iwamoto from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia shared his findings on microalgae in Southeast Asia, including its capacity to prevent soil erosion. Dr. Ayyoob Sharifi from Hiroshima University, Japan, addressed urbanism and climate change mitigation. Completing the lineup, Dr. Amado A. Angeles discussed the Campus Food Circularity Program at the University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB).

The breakout sessions covered diverse themes, including Teaching and Learning, Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion, Public Health, Safety, and Security, Biodiversity and Natural Resources, Leadership and Governance, Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Food Innovations, Digitization, Digitalization, and Innovation, and Language, Culture, and Literature.

The festival’s first day featured a Pre-conference Skills Building Session focused on enhancing researchers’ publication opportunities. UPLB Associate Professor Casper B. Agaton discussed selecting the right journal, Dr. Eliseo F. Huesca Jr. of DNSC elaborated on securing scholarships and fellowships abroad, Dr. Jomar Rabajante of UPLB highlighted the use of artificial intelligence in big data research, and DNSC’s Dr. Mark Ronald S. Maseguiao and Dr. Mariannie A. Rebortera shared their experiences in writing policy and advocacy briefs.

The event is in collaboration with Hiroshima University, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, University of the Philippines Los Baños, Davao de Oro State College, SMAARRDEC, and the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte.
