PANABO CITY – Faculty members from Davao del Norte State College’s Institute of Aquatic and Applied Sciences showcased their research at the College’s 3rd International Research Festival. This event was in collaboration with Hiroshima University, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB), Southern Mindanao Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources Research Development Consortium (SMAARRDEC), Davao de Oro State College (DdOSC), and the Provincial Government of Davao del Norte.

Dr. Girley S. Gumanao, Dr. Rosie Lynn P. Tejada, Dr. Nickel Jean L. Sastine, Carl Joseph O. Castañeda, Kristine Joy S. Gumanao, and Anselmo G. Anobong Jr. presented their studies on topics such as Seastar Predation, Taxonomy of Brachiuyan Fauna and the Role of Community Stakeholders, Population of Sea Hare, New Records and Rare Marine Fishes, and Sea Star Diet Composition, respectively. Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology alumni Kyrie Eleison Perigrino and Tracy Tabalanza discussed the Dynamics of Biofilms in Anthropogenic Marine Debris and Sedimentation on Coral Larval Settlement and Survival. Ms. Grace C. Guanzon from the Fisheries Department addressed the Infestation of Isopod, N. indica in S. Crumenopthalmus off Panay Gulf.

The festival, attended by both local and international scholars, took place on October 28-29, 2024, at the Big 8 Corporate Hotel in Tagum City, Davao del Norte. The theme was “Futuring Together: Shaping Local Solutions, Leveraging Global Connections”.
