General Guidelines and Mechanics

Participation

  • All officially registered teams/tribes are required to participate.
  • All members of the team are encouraged to take part in the presentation.
  • The Saludo must demonstrate collective participation rather than focusing only on a few performers.

Performance Duration

Each team shall be given a minimum of 2 minutes and a maximum of 3 minutes for the entire presentation.

Timing begins upon the first movement, sound, chant, or musical cue and ends with the team's final pose or salute. A 2-point deduction shall be imposed for every 30 seconds or fraction thereof beyond the prescribed time.

Content of the Saludo

The performance may incorporate:

  • Team/tribe name
  • Team chant or battle cry
  • Dance movements
  • Rhythmic movements
  • Clapping, stomping, body percussion, or vocal effects
  • Creative formations
  • Symbolic gestures
  • Team colors, banners, flags, or lightweight props
  • A recognizable signature salute or final pose

Music

  • Recorded music may be used.
  • Live chants, percussion, body percussion, and vocal effects are highly encouraged.
  • Music must be appropriate for a general audience.

Costume and Team Identity

  • Teams may wear their official team uniform, color, or costume.
  • The use of accessories and simple props that reinforce the identity of the team is encouraged.
  • Costumes and props should not obstruct or endanger performers.

Props

  • Lightweight and manageable props such as flags, banners, ribbons, fans, scarves, or symbolic objects may be used.
  • Props involving fire, explosives, sharp objects, liquids, powder, confetti, or other materials that may create safety hazards or delay the succeeding performance are prohibited.

Safety

  • Dangerous lifts, throws, stunts, or movements that may cause injury are prohibited.
  • The organizing committee reserves the right to stop a performance if it poses an immediate safety risk.

Originality

  • Teams are encouraged to create an original Saludo that represents their own identity.
  • Direct copying of another team's presentation is discouraged.

Sportsmanship

  • The Saludo must celebrate one's own team without insulting, mocking, threatening, or degrading another team.
  • Offensive, discriminatory, obscene, or inappropriate gestures, words, costumes, or actions are prohibited.

Performance Order

The order of presentation shall be determined through drawing of lots or by the sequence established by the organizing committee.

Judges' Decision

The decision of the Board of Judges shall be final.

Criteria for Judging
Teams will be evaluated based on creativity, coordination, team spirit, identity, and the overall impact of their Saludo presentation.

Detailed Judging Criteria

A. Creativity and Originality

Judges shall consider:

  • Originality of the presentation
  • Creativity of movements, chants, formations, and transitions
  • Innovative combination of dance, rhythm, voice, and visual elements
  • Creativity of the team's signature salute

B. Unity, Synchronization, and Coordination

Judges shall consider:

  • Synchronization of movements
  • Coordination among members
  • Clean execution of formations and transitions
  • Timing and rhythm
  • Evidence of teamwork and preparation

C. Team Spirit and Energy

Judges shall consider:

  • Enthusiasm and confidence
  • Strength and conviction of chants and movements
  • Collective participation
  • Ability to communicate pride, camaraderie, and team spirit
Note: Energy should not be judged solely on volume. A team may demonstrate strong energy through movement quality, expression, rhythm, and commanding stage presence.

D. Team Identity and Concept

Judges shall consider:

  • Clear representation of the team's name, color, symbol, or identity
  • Consistency of the presentation with the team's concept
  • Meaningfulness of chants, movements, costumes, and symbols
  • Effectiveness of the signature salute in representing the team

E. Overall Impact

Judges shall consider:

  • Stage presence
  • Audience appeal
  • Entertainment value
  • Visual and emotional impact
  • Strength of opening and ending
  • Memorability of the entire presentation
