PANABO CITY — Faculty members, staff, administrators, and student representatives of Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) participated in a campus-based training on energy efficiency and conservation on March 6, 2026, held at the Gender and Development Conference Room.

The activity, dubbed as “DNSC Green Initiatives: On Energy Efficiency and Conservation”, was organized by the college’s Energy Efficiency Committee, in partnership with the Department of Energy – Mindanao Field Office.

In an opening message delivered by Vice President for Administration and Finance Reir Erlinda E. Cutad, on behalf of College President Joy M. Sorrosa, she emphasized the importance of responsible energy use amid global energy and environmental concerns.

“This seminar is both timely and essential,” Pres. Sorrosa said, citing challenges such as climate change, unstable energy supplies, and rising fuel costs affecting communities worldwide.

The training featured technical presentations from energy experts of the Department of Energy’s Mindanao Field Office. Adrian Mel B. Delola, Science Research Specialist II, discussed the legal framework and institutional responsibilities under Republic Act No. 11285, also known as the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act. His presentation outlined requirements for government agencies and state universities to implement energy management systems, conduct energy audits, and report energy consumption data.

Pres. Sorrosa also noted that higher education institutions are expected to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship through both instruction and institutional practices.

Another presentation was delivered by Jesther Marlou C. Orong, Science Research Specialist II, who sahred practical strategies and best practices in energy efficiency and conservation that institutions can apply in their daily operations.

Discussions during the training also covered policies supporting renewable energy and explored possible initiatives for the campus, including the potential installation of electric vehicle charging stations.

The activity supports the college’s broader Green Initiatives Program focused on responsible resource management and environmental stewardship within the institution and the surrounding community.
