PANABO CITY – In line with the observance of Fire Prevention Month 2026, Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) conducted a Fire Suppression and Safety Management Training at the Academic Building on March 30, 2026.
The training was a collaborative effort between the Human Resource Management Division and DNSC Disaster Resiliency and Administration Committee (DRAC), with participants including Bachelor of Science in Disaster Resilience and Management faculty members, selected students, and utility personnel.
FO2 Theus Noel Martinez, Fire Safety Educator from Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Panabo, was the main resource speaker. He was assisted by FO1 Quirino Cunanan. Participants engaged in demonstrations, hands-on simulations, and practical exercises designed to apply proper fire suppression techniques and safety procedures in real-life fire incidents.
“Recently, we experienced an incident that highlighted the need for this activity as part of strengthening our fire prevention plan,” shared Dir. Rhaymart Joe O. Gella, DNSC Emergency Operations Center Manager, in his opening remarks. “Accidents and incidents can happen anytime, often when we least expect them. That is why it is always better to be prepared. I encourage everyone to fully focus and actively participate in this training.”
Dr. Boyeth C. Pelone, Chairperson of DRAC, emphasized the rationale behind the training, “Recognizing the potential risks associated with fire incidents in an educational setting, we are reminded of recent events nearby, where a fire incident could have caused significant damage if not contained early. This highlights the importance of being prepared at all times.”
