PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College promoted appreciation for the richness of Filipino culture and identity through a series of activities held in observance of National Heritage Month 2026.
Among the featured events was “Sayaw sa Kabilin: One Stage, Many Traditions”, a dance recital presented by the Bachelor of Physical Education 2A students on June 3 at the Barangay Ising Gymnasium in Carmen, Davao del Norte. The performance showcased Filipino heritage through “dances that honored ancestors, reflected historical experiences, and embodied values and traditions passed down through generations.”
Students enrolled in SS 122: Life, Works, and Writings of Jose Rizal also participated in “Pamana: A Rizalian Docu-Feature Film” under the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future”. Through documentary and narrative storytelling, the students explored various aspects of Filipino heritage and connected them to the ideas, writings, and nationalist vision of Dr. Jose Rizal.
The productions featured themes such as Sayaw ng Pamana (traditional dances), Awit ng Bayan (songs), stories, myths, legends and epics, Lasa ng Pamana (food), and Kabuhayang Pamana (traditional livelihoods), highlighting the enduring relevance of cultural traditions in contemporary society.
Complementing these activities was a Gallery Walk organized by Bachelor of Science in Social Work 2A and 2B students. The exhibit drew attention to the cultural treasures, historical landscapes, and diverse peoples of Mindanao, providing participants with a deeper appreciation of the region’s heritage and identity.
Through these activities, DNSC joined the nationwide observance of National Heritage Month, further cementing its commitment to fostering cultural awareness, historical appreciation, and national identity among students.
