PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) participated in the 2024 Philippine Association for State Universities and Colleges (PASUC) Annual Convention and General Assembly, held on July 15-17, at the SMX Convention Center Manila in Pasay City.

Representing DNSC were Director for Executive Affairs Melissa G. Dalumay, Director for Administrative Services Leo D. Rayon Jr., Faculty Association President Jean D. Centina, and Alumni Affairs Coordinator Samuel A. Plando. The event featured plenary sessions focused on strategies to enhance SUC programs and initiatives. The theme, “Advancing Competitiveness of SUCs for National Development”, was the focal point of the keynote address delivered by Sen. Alan Peter S. Cayetano, Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Higher, Technical, and Vocational Education.

Several plenary and panel sessions covered an array of topics. These included strategies for financing higher education to ensure quality and sustainability in SUCs, exploring the issues, challenges, and future directions of the Philippines’ Free Higher Education, and positioning Philippine SUCs within a competitive global landscape.

The discussions also emphasized the importance of quality assurance in maintaining educational gains, promoting a healthy lifestyle with practical advice, and exploring the concept of Blue Zones as regions promoting longevity.

Additionally, ROSSS Phase II was highlighted as a strategy to boost productivity and efficiency within the SUCs’ workforce. Other sessions explored the expansion of the research and innovation ecosystem, focusing on relevant strategies, challenges, and opportunities. The event concluded with discussions on the potential of artificial intelligence in creating smart campuses for sustainable development.

During the assembly, Dr. Tirso A. Ronquillo was elected for the fourth consecutive term as PASUC president.
