PANABO CITY – As part of its 30th Charter Day celebration, Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) featured Laro ng Lahi in its lineup of festivities. The event, held on February 13, 2024, at various venues, promoted teamwork, camaraderie, and appreciation for Filipino games and culture.
Two teams competed: the Faculty Association (FA), composed of teaching personnel, and the General Administrative and Support Services Organization (GASSO), representing non-teaching staff. Instructor Regina Dayagro from the Institute of Education emphasized the importance of such activities in fostering unity among colleagues, “It is very important that faculty and staff actively participate in the Kalibulung Festival and Charter Day, not just students, because it helps maintain work-life balance. We have responsibilities, but we also need moments like this to unwind and reconnect.”
The competition began with Word Factory, testing players’ vocabulary and word-building skills. GASSO emerged victorious in this round. The faculty team, however, secured a hard-fought win in Sungka after an intense three-round match.
Laughter echoed throughout the Hampas-Palayok challenge as blindfolded participants attempted to break a hanging pot. Despite the lighthearted chaos, GASSO clinched another win.
In the high-energy Patintero match, GASSO executed a strong game plan, winning 8–6 against the faculty team. However, the faculty bounced back in the Sack Race and Snake & Ladder, where players navigated the games with anticipation and laughter. They also dominated the Scrabble competition, securing a 966–823 victory over the staff.
GASSO regained the upper hand in Dama and Chess, winning the final friendly matches in a thrilling tie-breaker round.
The Laro ng Lahi event successfully fostered teamwork and sportsmanship, reinforcing DNSC’s commitment to building a strong and connected academic community.
