PANABO CITY – The Philippine Futures Thinking Society hosted the 2024 FuturesPhil Conference from August 22-24, 2024, at the Manila Prince Hotel. The event brought together researchers, educators, and leaders for dialogues on sustainable development, innovation, and futures thinking.

Representing Davao del Norte State College were College President, Dr. Joy M. Sorrosa, Vice President for Research, Extension, and Production, and Futures Thinking Focal Person, Dr. Eliseo F. Huesca Jr., Director for Executive Affairs, Dr. Melissa G. Dalumay, and Planning Officer III, Mr. Joshua P. Elardo.

Key plenary sessions explored topics such as Futures in Engineering and Innovations, Education in the Philippines, and Work and Technology. Noteworthy presentations included studies on the Futures of Historical Sites, Cross-Cultural Dance Innovations, Virtual Reality in Philippine Higher Education, Planning Cities as Complex Adaptive Systems, Climate Change Resilient Housing, Technology Transfer, and Halal Smart Product Development.

One of the highlights of the event was the keynote speech by Hon. Sherwin T. Gatchalian, Senator of the Philippines, who emphasized the importance of preparing the education sector for various futures and positioning universities and colleges as prime movers of innovative solutions.
