
PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) welcomed Ms. Jessica R. Yoewono from Universitas Ciputra Surabaya, Indonesia, for a benchmarking visit on September 23, 2025.
The DNSC team, led by Dr. Jesebel R. Besas, senior faculty member and Director for Production Services, presented an overview of the Bachelor of Science in Food Technology (BSFT) program, highlighting its objectives, areas of specialization, and its vital role in innovation, food safety, and product development. The program’s alignment with both local and global food industry trends was also emphasized.
Discussions focused on institutional partnerships in the Davao Region, showcasing DNSC’s collaborations with local government units, industries, and non-government organizations that support joint research, extension projects, internships, and community-based initiatives.
The session also featured a showcase of student and faculty-developed products, including the popular Nutri Rims and other nutritious, student-made innovations. Ms. Yoewono learned about DNSC’s ongoing research and development of ready-to-eat food packs, particularly Halal-certified meals designed for use during calamities and emergencies.
Ms. Yoewono introduced Universitas Ciputra Surabaya and shared insights into its innovative academic programs and initiatives, identifying potential areas for academic and research collaboration. Both institutions also discussed the establishment of student exchange programs aimed at enhancing international mobility, exposing learners to diverse food cultures and laboratory practices, and fostering cross-cultural competencies and global citizenship. The visit concluded with a tour of DNSC’s Food Technology laboratories and facilities.
