PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), through its Quality Assurance Office, conducted a two-day workshop on Quality Management System (QMS) Enhancement of Documents held at the DNSC Audio-Visual Room on July 22 – 23, 2025. The activity aimed to integrate climate change considerations into the College’s quality documentation system.

The workshop was facilitated by ISO Consultant Mary Glory Caunin from JBDC Consultancy, who provided hands-on coaching to members of the management team, process owners, internal quality auditors, and document control custodians. The sessions focused on the evaluation and enhancement of QMS documents, specifically in the context of climate change adaptation and mitigation.

During the coaching sessions, Ms. Caunin emphasized the need for a more proactive and structured approach to climate-related issues across DNSC offices. Key recommendations from the consultant included the documentation of climate change issues through SWOT analysis per office, the revision of risk and opportunities registries to incorporate mitigation strategies, and the integration of emergency protocols and waste reduction processes in institutional procedures.

She also urged the College to assign a Pollution Control Officer who would liaise with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and ensure compliance with environmental regulations. She highlighted the need to clarify the institution’s waste management procedures to reflect a more systematic and sustainable approach. During his closing remarks, Quality Assurance Officer II Jomarie Dave Java described the mentoring sessions as a springboard for a “renewed direction and drive to enhance and upgrade the institution’s QMS.”
