PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College participated in the conduct of the first quarter of the 2023 Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED), coordinated by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), through the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), last March 9, 2023.

A virtual ceremonial alarm was activated via the official pages of NDRRMC and OCD, signaling the commencement of the drill at two o’clock in the afternoon. Public agencies and institutions were active in performing the drill. In DNSC, the Committee on Disaster Resiliency and Management spearheaded the conduct of the drill. The emergency alarm system prompted the DNSC employees, students, and clientele who were inside the campus premises to perform the basic earthquake protocol; duck, cover, and hold.

After a few seconds, the participants evacuated to an open field. A simulation of rescue operations for injured individuals was also conducted. The DRM committee was assisted by the students from the Bachelor of Science in Disaster Resiliency and Management (BSDRM).

The drill was especially relevant in recent days because of the Intensity III and IV earthquakes that hit the Davao region, particularly the provinces of Davao de Oro and Davao del Norte.
