PANABO CITY – In line with its Women’s Month Celebration, Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) hosted Project Pink: Breast Cancer Awareness Program on April 2, 2025, at the DNSC Audio-Visual Room (AVR). The event united students, faculty, and health advocates to promote early detection, proactive health measures, and community support in the fight against breast cancer.

Human Resource Management Office Head, Ms. Raquel J. Edjec, opened the event by stressing the importance of breast cancer awareness and urging participants to become advocates for knowledge and support.

Oncologist Dr. Genecar H. Erfe, FCP, DPSMO, led a session on breast cancer risks, prevention, and early detection. She demonstrated self-examination techniques and emphasized the role of healthy lifestyle choices, regular screenings, and early diagnosis in reducing risks. Highlighting that breast cancer affects both men and women, she stated, “Breast cancer knows no gender. Both men and women can be at risk. Awareness and early detection can make all the difference.”

A breast cancer survivor shared her inspiring journey, offering words of encouragement to those facing similar battles, “Go with the process, always pray, do not be afraid, and prepare yourself. Most importantly, have faith in God.”

In a show of solidarity, CitySavings partnered with DNSC to provide options of assistance for cancer patients in need. The event also featured an open forum, where participants addressed myths, treatments, and emotional struggles, fostering a stronger sense of community support. The event was organized by DNSC’s Gender and Development (GAD) Office.
