PANABO CITY – Students of Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) showed appreciation in various ways to their teachers on October 5, the annual date of commemoration for World Teacher’s Day. Most of the student-administered social media pages posted heartwarming content to honor the teaching and non-teaching personnel in their departments.

The Society of Science Educators visited the faculty rooms to give tokens, such as photo frames and glasses, while students from the Bachelor of Science in Social Work gave out chocolates and stickers to their teachers. The college-wide World Teacher’s Day celebration was done during the Gabi ng Parangal, simultaneous with the closing program of the Civil Service Anniversary celebration at the DNSC gymnasium on September 27, 2023.

The theme for this year is “The Teachers We Need for the Education We Want: The Global Imperative to Reverse the Teacher Shortage”. It covers the urgent need to address the decline in the number of teachers worldwide. “We call upon countries to ensure that teaching is transformed everywhere into a more attractive and valorized profession where teachers are valued, trusted, and adequately supported to meet the needs of every learner. Bold actions must be taken, if we are to reverse the current decline and successfully increase teacher numbers,” a joint message by the director-general of UNESCO, ILO, and UNICEF.
