PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College Talaingod Campus received a two-classroom building from the Local Government Unit of Talaingod during a turnover ceremony held on August 18, 2026.
A Certificate of Donation was presented to DNSC to recognize the LGU Talaingod’s donation. The additional facility expands the campus’s existing learning spaces and supports its continuing efforts to provide accessible higher education in the municipality.
In her welcome message, Dr. Rosie Lynn P. Tejada, Dean of the Institute of Aquatic and Applied Sciences, shared, “So this is an addition to the four classrooms in our main building. We now have six classrooms for our students, I hope we can all take good care of these facilities.”
Representing Talaingod Mayor Jonnie A. Libayao, Ms. Christine O. Siervo highlighted the LGU’s commitment to expanding access to higher education within the municipality, “This building turnover ceremony is not merely the turnover of concrete, steel, and physical infrastructure. It represents a monumental bridge of hope, opportunity, and empowerment for the youth of Talaingod. For years, bringing accessible, quality, and culturally inclusive higher education to our municipality has been one of our highest aspirations.”
She added that through the DNSC extension campus, young people, particularly members of the Ata-Manobo community, are given an opportunity to pursue higher education closer to their homes and communities without having to travel far or disconnect from their roots.
On the other hand, DNSC President Joy M. Sorrosa recognized the sacrifices of faculty members assigned to the Talaingod Campus.
“Offering programs here is not easy. Our faculty members are making sacrifices, being away from their families and traveling long distance. Some of them have to travel every day, while others chose to stay here,” Pres. Sorrosa said.
Despite these challenges, Sorrosa emphasized that DNSC remains committed to working with the LGU Talaingod in expanding educational opportunities for the community.
“And yet, we are here because we are one with the LGU of Talaingod in providing quality education to our constituents. This campus was established with a noble aim: to help and provide quality education to our Indigenous Peoples communities here in Talaingod, particularly the Ata-Manobo,” she added.
The activity was attended by the members of the DNSC College Management Team, officials from the local government unit, students, faculty members, staff, and guests.
