PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) conducted a one-day Basic Skills Training for Fire Disaster Responders on April 11, 2025, bringing together members of the Disaster Resiliency and Administration Committee (DRAC), the Student Emergency Response Team (SERT), and faculty from the Bachelor of Science in Disaster Resiliency and Management (BSDRM) program.

“This initiative demonstrates our shared commitment to being equipped, both in mindset and skill, as we respond swiftly and effectively to fire-related incidents in DNSC and our own homes,” said Dr. Boyeth C. Pelone, DRAC Chair, in his opening remarks.

The training featured Fire Officers Ranzen John Batosalem and Theus Noel Martinez from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Panabo, who led both the lecture and hands-on demonstrations. Participants learned fire safety practices, preventive measures, and appropriate responses during a fire emergency. They also engaged in practical exercises, including simulations involving the use of fire hoses and other firefighting equipment.

In her closing message, Gemma G. Cervantes, DRAC member and Head of the Medical Services Unit, encouraged continued vigilance and community engagement, “Let us take everything we’ve learned today and carry it forward—not only as individuals, but as part of a community committed to safety, preparedness, and service.”
