PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) hosted an International Lecture Program, “Building the Future: Sustainable Thinking as the Core of the 2030 Agenda”, on February 25, 2026, at the Gender and Development Conference Hall. The event drew deans, faculty members, and Bachelor of Science in Disaster Risk Management (BSDRM) students.

The lecture was delivered by Dr. Tapas Pal, Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Professor of Geography at Raiganj University, India. Dr. Pal discussed sustainable thinking, climate change, solid waste management, and environmental awareness. He introduced the concept of “mindscape” transformation, emphasizing that changes in mindset and awareness can influence consumption patterns, business practices, and environmental stewardship.

In her opening remarks, Dr. Leonida P. Piorac, Director for the Curriculum and Instruction Division, welcomed participants and highlighted the significance of sustaining conversations around the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“Through international partnerships, DNSC facilitates the exchange of knowledge, best practices, and solutions that benefit both local and global communities, embracing the principle of ‘thinking globally while acting locally,’” she said.

Addressing BSDRM students, she added, “Sustainable thinking, grounded in science, ethics, and inclusive education, serves as the foundation of effective disaster preparedness, risk reduction, response, and recovery.”

Mr. Mer Jun Q. Cañas, Head of the Internationalization and External Affairs Division, reflected on the timeliness of the lecture, stating, “We just concluded our Charter Day celebration which focused on sustainable development… We will become more mindful as we move around and observe our surroundings. We are reminded to remain cautious and intentional with our actions.”
