PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College’s Learning and Information Resource Center (LIRC), in collaboration with the Society of English Major Students (SEMS), led the 90th National Book Week and Library and Information Services Month celebration from November 25 to 29, 2024.

The week-long event, themed “Magbasa, Mangarap, Magdiwang” (Read, Dream, Celebrate), featured various activities aimed at cultivating a love for reading and promoting inclusive libraries under the advocacy “LibVOCACY: Unity towards Inclusive and Empowered Libraries”. Employees and students participated in contests and initiatives that showcased creativity and the power of storytelling.

“This celebration reminds us that books are not just vessels of knowledge but gateways to dreams, tools for growth, and reasons to celebrate our shared humanity,” said SEMS President Meljohn L. Berdos during the opening ceremony.

Highlights of the event included the Book Face Photography Contest, where Jiriel Felisan from the Institute of Computing secured first place in the student category. In the employee category, Mr. Jezreyll James Cabasag and Ms. Kimberly Sulla from the Institute of Teacher Education (ITED) won top honors. Nicole Majarreis triumphed in the Digital Poster Making Contest, while ITED claimed victories in both the Reader’s Theater and the Kwentong Silid-Aklatan Video Contest, ultimately earning the title of overall champion of the celebration.

During the closing program, LIRC Head Paulina T. Baba expressed her heartfelt gratitude to the DNSC community for their active participation and support. She highlighted how the event not only promoted reading but also fostered creativity, collaboration, and a shared love for learning among participants.
