Discover Our Sanctuary
The Taklobo Tours: Giant Clam Sanctuary is situated in Brgy. Adecor, Kaputian District, Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS), Davao del Norte, Philippines. Nestled within the pristine marine environment of the Davao Gulf, the sanctuary serves as a protected area for the propagation and conservation of giant clams.
Taklobo Tours, a community-based ecotourism project operating in the Island Garden City of Samal (IGaCoS), exemplifies sustainable development and community empowerment. Initially conceived to protect giant clams (taklobos) within the DNSC-managed Marine Reserve Park (MRP), the project has evolved into a thriving enterprise providing local employment and educational experiences for tourists. Visitors engage in informative tours that highlight the conservation status of giant clams, relevant environmental policies, and the broader importance of marine protected areas.
The project’s financial sustainability ensures ongoing operations and provides consistent employment for locally trained and capacitated tour guides. A strong collaborative partnership, formalized through a Memorandum of Agreement between DNSC, the IGaCoS Local Government, the Adecor Barangay Unit, and the Adecor United Fisherfolk Organization, underpins the project’s success. This collaborative structure ensures clear roles and responsibilities for all stakeholders in maintaining the project’s long-term viability.
Taklobo Tours’ significant impact has garnered prestigious recognition, including the Commission on Higher Education Region XI’s Outstanding Extension Program award in 2021 and a Partnership Award from the IGaCoS Local Government Unit. These awards underscore the project’s positive contributions to both the Samaleño community and the environment, demonstrating a successful model for sustainable ecotourism.
