Davao del Norte State College is Hiring!

dnsc risk management seminar

PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College, through its Quality Assurance Office, conducted a Risk and Opportunity Training Workshop on July 2, 2025, via Microsoft Teams. The activity was attended by process owners, delivery unit heads, and internal quality auditors to strengthen their understanding of risk-based thinking as required by ISO 9001:2015.

The training focused on identifying and managing risks that could affect the College’s ability to meet its objectives and maintain compliance. Participants reviewed the definition of risk as “the effect of uncertainty on objectives”, and learned a five-step process: Define, Identify, Assess, Control, and Monitor.

The session also emphasized how internal and external factors, such as manpower issues or regulatory changes, can impact quality. ISO 9001 clauses on risk-based thinking were discussed, along with the use of a Risk Register to document risks, actions, and controls.

Gaps between written procedures and actual practices were identified, with reminders to update manuals and enhance auditor training. The ALARP principle (As Low as Reasonably Practicable) was introduced as a basis for selecting appropriate risk controls, whether to avoid, reduce, transfer, or accept a given risk.

This activity forms part of DNSC’s broader effort to build a risk-aware workplace and sustain the effectiveness of its ISO-certified quality management system.
