PANABO CITY —Davao del Norte State College conducted the “Anti-Hazing in Action: Understanding, Preventing, and Empowering” seminar on February 27, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Student Development and Services Building.

The activity was organized by the college’s Student Organizations Unit as part of its continuing efforts to promote responsible leadership and safe organizational practices among student groups. Serving as resource speaker was Atty. Loreville P. Fontanilla, who discussed the fundamentals of hazing, including its definition, common forms, and documented cases.

Atty. Fontanilla also shared personal insights on the importance of joining student organizations for leadership development and community engagement while emphasizing that organizational activities must remain aligned with lawful and ethical standards.

Participants, composed of student leaders and representatives from recognized campus organizations, were introduced to the different types of hazing practices and examined past incidents to better understand the consequences and preventive measures that institutions and organizations can adopt.

In his closing message, Ammar A. Salih, Vice Governor of the Council of Student Organizations, shared, “By understanding the severe legal consequences and the lasting trauma caused by hazing, we are now equipped to be advocates for a safer campus culture,” Salih said.

He also encouraged student leaders to guide their respective organizations with integrity and to promote activities that empower members rather than subject them to harmful practices.
