
PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), through its Curriculum and Instruction Division under the Academic Affairs Unit, conducted a Training-Workshop on Designing New Programs and Revising Existing Curricula on October 22, 2025, at the DNSC Audio-Visual Room (AVR).
The workshop was attended by selected faculty members, program chairs, deans, and academic directors, who are involved in the proposal and revision of program offerings. As part of DNSC’s academic development initiatives, approximately eight undergraduate and four graduate curricula are scheduled for revision, while four new undergraduate programs are being proposed for the Commission on Higher Education’s approval through the Certificate of Program Compliance (COPC) process.
In her welcome remarks, Prof. Nancy R. Raiz highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in curriculum development. “This is a significant event as we enhance our educational offerings and ensure that our curriculum remains relevant and effective for our students in a changing world. Let us approach this workshop with open minds and a spirit of collaboration, because the best ideas often emerge when we share knowledge and build upon each other’s perspectives,” she said.
The workshop featured a series of expert-led discussions. Dr. Leonida Porras-Piorac opened the session with a presentation on the Revised ISO Process Flow and the Preparation of New Programs and Curriculum Revisions. Dr. Leo Rayon Jr. followed with a discussion on the Components and Preparation of Feasibility Studies, providing practical guidance for program proposal development.
Dr. Mark Ronald S. Manseguiao presented the Preparation of the SETI/SECCI-SDG Scorecard, integrating Science, Education, Technology, and Innovation (SETI) with Social, Environmental, and Climate Change Initiatives (SECCI) to ensure curricula align with sustainable development goals. Mr. Jeremy Barnido outlined the Requirements and Flow of Board of Trustees Approval for curriculum preparation and revision, while Dr. Porras-Piorac concluded the session with guidance on Formulation of Action Plans and Timelines, helping participants set clear implementation targets.
Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Girley S. Gumanao underscored the transformative role of curriculum development, “Curriculum development is not just designing lessons or organizing content; it is about shaping minds, nurturing values, and preparing learners for a rapidly changing world. What we teach today must empower our students to face tomorrow with confidence, competence, and compassion.”
