PANABO CITY — Davao del Norte State College (DNSC) conducted two major safety activities this June: participation in the Second Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) and a Fire Suppression Orientation and Simulation Drill. These back-to-back events serve as a proactive lead-up to the upcoming observance of National Disaster Resilience Month in July.
National Earthquake Drill Participation
Held on June 19, 2025, the College’s participation in the Second (2nd) Quarter NSED was led by the Disaster Resilience and Administration Committee (DRAC) and supported by the Student Emergency Response Team (SERT). The activity began at 9:00 AM, mobilizing all college personnel, students, stakeholders, and visitors across campus to execute the standard duck, cover, and hold procedure, followed by a coordinated evacuation to designated safe zones.
In line with the Republic Act No. 10121, which promotes earthquake preparedness to build community resilience, DNSC took this opportunity to revisit and strengthen emergency protocols. Faculty members facilitated the drills in classrooms, ensuring headcounts before and after evacuations, while identified personnel submitted detailed reports of participation.
Fire Suppression Orientation and Drill
Just a few days later, on June 25, 2025, employees from the Security Services Unit (SSU) and General Services Unit (GSU) gathered at the Academic Building for a Fire Suppression Orientation and Simulation Drill. Spearheaded by the SSU, in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Division (HRMD) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) – Panabo City, the event aimed to equip frontline personnel with essential fire safety knowledge and hands-on skills.
In his opening remarks, SSU Head Mr. Edison C. Molina emphasized the importance of the activity, “This is part of our continuing commitment to ensure the safety and preparedness of our personnel in handling emergencies, particularly fire incident. It will not only equip us with essential knowledge on fire prevention and suppression but also empower us with practical skills that can save lives and protect property.”
The BFP Panabo team, composed of FO2 Ranzen John J. Batosalem, FO2 Theus Noel Martinez, FO1 Jessah Mae L. Bocales, FO1 Nikka R. Fajardo, and FO2 Kenny Joy A. Sagayno, led the training. Topics included the Fire Triangle, fire behavior, hazards in the workplace, and firefighting equipment use, with participants engaging in simulated fire scenarios for hands-on experience.
