PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College, through the Institute of Advanced Studies, conducted an eight-day training for basic education teachers to strengthen evidence-based teaching practices in schools. This was funded under the extension activity: Research Capability Project (RECAP) Phase 2: Strengthening Action Research Competence of Basic Education Teacher Researchers.
Held on Saturdays across October to December 2025, the project aimed to transform teachers from practitioners into practitioner-researchers. The workshop series was structured into three core modules, guiding participants through the entire action research cycle.
The activity began with “From Idea to Proposal Writeshop: Crafting your Action Research Blueprint” on October 18 and 25. Teachers learned to refine their research questions and lay a solid foundation for their studies, starting with an overview of Research Management Guidelines by Dr. Erick Dalumpiners of DepEd Panabo City. Dr. Jevannel G. Borlio then guided them in Writing the Introduction and Review of Related Literature, followed by sessions with Dr. Leo D. Rayon, Jr. on crafting the Purpose Statement, Research Questions, Hypothesis, and Theoretical Framework.
The mid-phase, “Making It Happen: Tools, Validity, and Intervention Design”, spanned November 8, 15, 22, and 29. This hands-on segment focused on methodology. Dr. Ronald S. Decano demystified Sampling and Instrumentation, and Data Analysis Plans, while Dr. Charlo Bianci M. Guray ensured academic rigor with a session on Citations and References. Dr. Marilou D. Junsay led a module on Intervention Design, and Drs. Jevannel G. Borlio and Ma. Melanie N. Edig conducted a practical Reliability Testing Simulation.
The culminating module, “Telling the Story of Change: Research Colloquium”, took place on December 6 and 13. Participants learned to make sense of their findings. Drs. Ma. Melanie N. Edig and Ronald S. Decano teamed up to teach Data Organization, Analysis, and Interpretation.
Dr. Leo D. Rayon, Jr. returned to synthesize everything into Writing the Full Action Research report, preparing the teachers to present their stories of change. The project benefited educators from seven schools: Cagangohan National High School, Desiderio FD National High School, JP Laurel Elementary School, Little Panay Elementary School, Mabunao National High School, Namuag Elementary School, and San Pedro Elementary School.
