PANABO CITY – Davao del Norte State College (DNSC), represented by College President Joy M. Sorrosa and several members of its Top Management Team, supported the launch of “Dabaw Patigbabaw 2050: A Regenerative Futures Plan” on October 15, 2024, at the Seda Hotel in Davao City.

The plan includes narratives and insights on the current state of various sectors in the region, along with a roadmap featuring strategies for realizing potential futures. These were developed through a series of workshops aimed at reinforcing the Regional Development Plan to sustain progress and resilience in the realms of environment, society, and economy.

“The Dabaw Patigbabaw 2050: Regenerative Futures has allowed us to delve into our regional concerns in the higher education sector and has provided platforms for innovation, resource maximization, and the promotion of intergenerational fairness through assessing our strengths, opportunities, and potentials in the region,” Dr. Joy M. Sorrosa, DNSC president and PASUC XI Chair, wrote in the foreword of the plan.

The launch was hosted by the Philippine Association of State Universities and Colleges in Davao Region (PASUC XI), which includes DNSC, Davao de Oro State College (DdOSC), Davao del Sur State College (DSSC), Davao Oriental State University (DOrSU), Southern Philippines Agri-business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST), and the University of Southeastern Philippines (USeP).

Senator Pia S. Cayetano, former Senate Committee Chair on Sustainable Development Goals, Innovations, and Futures Thinking, funded and supported the initiative. She challenged the State Universities and Colleges to lead in future-proofing the nation by seeking solutions to current problems and driving positive change. PASUC XI presidents and officials expressed their gratitude to the Senator’s office.

The event also featured a lecture-workshop on Futures Thinking Tools and Research Development, led by Mr. Emmanuel De Guia, resident futurist of the Office of Sen. Cayetano. The plan’s completion was influenced by the mentorship of the Philippine Futures Thinking Society and the efforts of the Regional Technical Working Group, chaired by Dr. Daisy T. Besing.
